Popular, Inc. Launches Fundraising Initiative To Help Earthquake Victims In Puerto Rico
Corporation donates $250,000 toward humanitarian efforts.
San Juan, Puerto Rico – January 13, 2020 – Popular, Inc, has announced a fundraising initiative to support the southern area of Puerto Rico affected by the recent earthquakes. The Corporation launched the initiative on Friday, January 10, 2020 with a $250,000 donation to benefit humanitarian efforts throughout the area.

Donations from the mainland U.S. and outside of Puerto Rico can be made when you visit any of the Popular Bank branches located on the U.S. mainland under the account Popular Foundation – Embracing Puerto Rico.
In Puerto Rico
Donations from within Puerto Rico can be made to the account, “Fundación Banco Popular – Abrazando a Puerto Rico” or through ATH Móvil under the option “Donate” a /FundacionBPPRAbrazandoPR.
“We are going through a difficult time due to the destruction caused by the tremors this week. We will support our communities in the southern area of Puerto Rico, starting with a $250,000 donation from our Abrazando a Puerto Rico foundation to support affected areas. All funds will be given to organizations such as the Center for Sustainable Agricultural Microenterprises and Technologies Yauco, Inc., the Network for the Rights of Children, IDIIFCO (the Sisters of Fatima) among others that provide psychological support, direct services and first aid services,” said Ignacio Álvarez, president and chief executive officer of Popular.

Popular, Inc. has a long-standing legacy of supporting humanitarian aid and recovery following natural disasters. In recent years, the Corporation provided support to communities affected by the earthquake in Haiti, Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.
